AFS Winter Weekend

The AFS students in Northern Maine had mid year orientation last weekend. It started off on thursday, I met up with my weekend host family. I stayed with the Tiltons for the weekend with Ayano, a Japanese girl. We received a Victoria Secret goodie bag as a welcome gift from Cathy Tilton. The house I'm stayed for the weekend was great! It's so big and orientated. The structure was classy and nice. They have got a hot bath pool out on the yard and a big gym down the basement, with a room complete with flat skin plasma tv, pool table and a ping pong table. *smiles* She has a daughter that doesn't play the guitar very much but owns a classical guitar and an electric guitar with amps.

The next day, it was an International Day. We had the event in Central Drive Middle School. Wore traditional costume and had a parade kind of session in front of 400 students & teachers. Met loads of other AFS student that have been in Maine since August. After talking and presenting in front of the crowd (I taught them how to sing 'Rasa Sayang'), we went to certain class assigned for us to talk more about our country and share it with the students.

I visted the 8th grader's glass, had lunch with them, advanced to grade 2 students and then kindergarden. The kindergarden children were really adorable. Instead of knowing more about Malaysia, they asked questions like:

Do you have animals in your country?

Can you spell my name? (I know it doesn't make sense)

What story books do you read?

Do you know Hannah Montana?

Can I hug you?

Can I sit beside you?

Went back to the Tiltons and took a nap. Headed back to the school to have a night session. We learned Olden American Square Dancing. It was outdated for teenagers but fun. *laughs*

We were to go snow boarding, tubing and snow mobilling the following day but it was snowing and it was too dangerous to take a bus up the mountains. *sigh* We ended up bowling in some ruined up bowling center. But as usual, it was fun. AFS students are so friendly and great.

After that, we got back to the same school and spent our time at the gym. We played volleyball and basketball and had more fun than bowling. *grins*

Had another night session. We had a talent show. Each of us are suppose to present something again to our weekend host family as an act of appreciation. *smiles* I did not plan to do anything but ended up teaching them an action song in Malay language.

We all had fun again.

After that night event, a few weekend host families got together and decided to treat the host students, us, with ice cream at an ice cream parlour. Went with Lyle, Francisco, Octavia, Ayano, Alex, Ludovico, Valerio and Elise & Emily (my weekend host sisters).

The Tiltons have two cats. I hate cats but I liked stroking these cats. I'm feeling so guilty to myself. *bash myself up* Anyway, staying with the Tiltons for a weekend was fun and nice.

I had an AFS weekend and loads of homework are not done yet.

School days!

I have officially started school 2 days back. It's great. No other words for it.

Well, yeah, it gets difficult most times to look for new friends. Scenario #1, lunch time! I just have to be bold and randomly ask people if I could join them for lunch. It's kind of awkward and might annoy some people. But I would rather do that than to have to sit alone. *sigh*

My classes are great. I'm having fun. But people out there, please talk more to me. *laughs*

I'm busy finishing my 5pages essay assignment.

Icey cold

Foster dad got some tickets to a ice hockey game between UMaine and Boston from his patients. The game was on last night. UMaine lost 2-3.


It was really really exciting. We got great seats up in the front, right behind the plastic screens at the goal end. What more can we get? It was awesomely cool. The hockey players kept on banging onto the screens everytime they wanted to score. *cheers*

The supporters were great too! They had this big band which played whole night long, songs like hawaian5o, the final countdown and johnny be good. The referee weren't very alert and the supporters knew it so they made a human size doll of the referee with a monkey face and hung it out of the place they were sitting. *laughs*

Whenever a player gets penalty, they would scream, "hey buddy you're outta here" and when someone actually push the other guy out of anger, the crowd goes, "angry midget.angry midget.angry midget". It was all good. *laughs again*

If you ever got a chance to go to an ice hockey game, trust me, go!

After the game, we had to walk 5 minutes in the cold cause the car park was far away. *ekk* Luckily, I survived. So did the other few hundreds of people.

I attended my first High School Honors Festival Concert-District V

It was so musical. *laughs* It's this event where all the students who play musical instrument very well and are great singers in eastern Maine combine together to perform. Talent-ly, my host brother, Jack is one of them.

There were different parts. First it was the orchestra with instruments such as violin, cello and harp. Next it was the chorus (choir). Then it was the band in which Jack plays the trombone, very well indeed, which is why he was chosen. *grins*

The whole thing was great. I've taken some videos of the singing and band playing.

Jack, my host brother is going to have a jazz band concert later on today. I went to the musical instrument shop to get some stuff for him yesterday. It was cool. They have a display of pretty pretty classical guitar. I want one! *sigh*






Later at night, I went to another basketball competition. This time it was the boys turn. It was between Hampden Academy (my school) and (which everyone thought would win).

It was a darn exciting game. The defense was nice. The rebound was awesome. The referee a bit unreasonable though. But I loved the game. The scores were rather close but Hampden Academy was leading all the way. At least, the second basketball game I attended they won. *jumps* But some audience went there to talk throughout the whole game, come on, don't be there! (no offence)

It's much more physical compared to the girls which makes it even better. *wooo*

To my Malaysian friends, note that we have to pay to watch our own school basketball team play. In a way, they're raising fund.

Imma go for a ice hockey game later today! I'm loving all the sports! *grins*
