Paint for Peace

Once again I went out. Last Saturday to Jusco Cheras Selatan, today to 1Utama. I suppose you can predict what I'm doing next Saturday now, can't you?

After Chemistry tuition, mother drove down to PJ. Went down to participate in the Paint For Peace event. A event in promoting peace and to encourage people to sign the peace petition, thus also promoting AFS Intercultural Programs.

The event is held at the Ground Promenade of 1Utama new wing. A very large banner was placed on the floor. The AFS volunteers (in blue) was busy all day explaining and encouraging people to take part in signing the petition. All the society have to do is just enter their names and respective countries! Do support and promote peace. Please be apart of this by simply signing the petition. Just click http://www.exchanges4peace.org/

I went there to join them around 4pm. Met Melissa, Danial, Yah Tyng, Dina, Burn, Nambee and a few others. I offered help and Melissa told me to do Face Painting. And I did. Sat at the booth from 6pm-9pm. Painting peace logo, peace sign, angels, hearts and peace dove throughout the whole thing. The rest were handling out balloons, brochurs, prizes and allowing the public (shoppers) to sign the petition. Those who sign the petition are also encouraged to paint their palms and leave a mark on the big 'PEACE' banner. Nippon sponsored their new odourless paint for us to use. *cheers* This paricular banner will be brought to New York during the United Nation meeting and it will be shown to the rest. Hence, if you want to your mark so that it can be shown and brought to France, be there tomorrow.

It was cool. Some got really excited signing the petition and children got excited over me using crayons to draw stuff on their bare skin. *smiles*

The event will still be on tomorrow, 30 Sept 07. So, you guys can go over to 1Utama and participate in this event. Parents permission? No worries, just tell em they can do a lil shopping while to go over to the AFS booth. *winks* briliant eh? Most mothers would fall for that. It's for a good course anyway. Do not hesistate to join the AFS volunteers. It's from 10am-10pm.

FYI, Malaysia current standing for the petition online signing is second highest, 8693 people, right below Thailand.

Have fun!

PAINT FOR PEACE

Friday, September 21 is the International Day of Peace*. On this day, millions of people worldwide will in some way recognize the need to continue working towards peace. It represents a wonderful opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of Peace on a shared date. With this in mind, we have sent an e-blast to everyone that signed the petition and invited him or her to continue supporting the petition by getting personal notes to people they know, inviting them to go to http://cts.vresp.com/c/?AFSInterculturalProg/becdad7e49/TEST/e7255c33ca and sign the petition in support of a global expansion of youth exchange programs.

We also highlighted the World Peace Forum that will be held at Columbia University in New York City on Saturday, October 27th in New York City. We invite everyone take part in this historic event, presented featured speakers and asked them to spread the word to other people who might be interested in attending. World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is also a co-sponsor for this event.

*In 1981, on the 20th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly, a UN resolution declared that the International Day of Peace "will serve as a reminder to all peoples that our Organization, with all its limitations, is a living instrument in the service of peace and should serve all of us here within the Organization as a constantly pealing bell reminding us that our permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind, is to peace. May this Peace Day indeed be a day of peace."
